except for the Gran caribes official website I get info on the riu caribe and pictures that don't look like the real resort home website. Has anyone been there lately? I would appreciate any tips for cancun also since this will be my first time there. Thanks

The Grand Caribe real used to be in the hotel that the Riu Caribe is now. On most maps I do beleive that it is on the map label either continental or grand continental. If you want to know its general location, it is next to the plaza flamingo. I stayed in the main hotel rooms and they were rather nice. A friend that went with my family stayed out in the villas, not quite as nice. The main pool gets kinda cramped...but they have two other pools. The pool by the villas is much quieter. The beach is allright. You kinda have to go infront of the hotel to the south to get away from the sandbag (placed to slow erosion). The beach infront of the Grand Caribe Real is kinda narrow (pre wilma...have no idea now now it looks.) I was there during Emily and they only took superficial damage to a seawall and a couple of rooms in the villa area. They have two main buffet resturants for the all inclusive. They have a "proper attire" dining room as well. They have mini fridges and room service as well. One resturant that is in the hotel but not part of the all inclusive plan is Tony Roma's. I recommend giving it a try. The people in the lobby that tell you to come to the "VIP" desk are actually timeshare reps. So unless you are interested in that just ignore them or politely decline. Overall, its a pretty good hotel. Personally I will not go back to that one. They have alot of rooms so it tends to make the crowd larger the what promotes a relaxing environment. Thats just my personal taste though, I do not like big crowds.

BTW...my kids learned this the hardway. Be wary of the little lollipops you dip in "fun-dip" they sell in the candy shop. Some of them have chili powder in them. That will teach the kids to just grab candy and say "can we have" in mexico.

I can tell you(because I have been to Cancun and am Owner of a Travel Agency) that tthe Gran Caribe Real is OK.....for a Cancun resort. Cookie-cutter, if you will.

Depending on how many are in your party going to Cancun, how long you plan on being in Cancun, what your Travel budget is, and whether you want "all-inclusive" or just Air/Hotel only will make a difference. Theres LOTS of very nice Resorts in Cancun of varying descriptions, lengths of stays, and pricing.

If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your specifics, I can sift through the many worthy Resorts in Cancun that satisfy your wants and needs and are pocketbook friendly.

It's a really good hotel, I stayed there like a year ago. If u have the all inclusive you should really enjoy it. It has like 4 restaurants, has a lounge, a nice beach, it's very big, if you're hungry at 5:30 there is a cafeteria where you can make hot dogs or eat popcorn, etc it's really nice, has good resturants, and has a good location.
