Go with the all inclusive at Royal Solaris. Have you looked into the RIU Resorts. They are my favorite. I am a travel agent and would be glad to help you if you like. I know all the resorts......actually, I live in Cancun now. You won't regret doing the all inclusive.....it ends up being cheaper in the end.....and it is so convenient. Restaurants in Cancun are expensive.......unless you go to the downtown area.....and some of those can be quite expensive. RIU Caribe is a great resort.....RIU Cancun is also great...and within walking distance to party center. Listen, send me email to sunsationvacations@yahoo.com and I will answer all your questions about any of the resorts you are considering. Happy Traveling to Cancun.

Go with the All Inclusive, also take a look at the Oasis Resorts as they are fantastic too. Why All Inclusive, well if you decide to have a lazy day and not move from the Hotel, you can eat and drink for free (except tips) in the Hotel. You can then eat out when you fancy. Lorenzillo's, Rio Churrascria, The Big Argentinian Steak House are some nice restaurants, but you'll find them everywhere in Cancun. Don't be afraid to venture into Downtown Cancun and get away from the Restaurants on the Strip, as there are some amazing and very reasonable restaurants here too, from Mexican to Lebanese. No matter what you choose, you'll have a great time here in Cancun. http://www.britsincancun.com

If you are into cocktails and specialty drinks stay at an all-inclusive. In the long run it's much more economical. Dinner in Cancun with cocktails and transportation can cost you $50-$60 dollars per person. You will spend at least $100 a day per person eating out. (3 meals)
Check out the Palace Resorts. They are very nice and you can stay at one and use the facilities of the others.

I am living in Cancun and I'm working at El Shrimp Bucket. our average check account is 25 dlls.
In Cancun as in NY or any other part of the world you can find cheap and expensive restaurants.
I can recommend to go all inclusive and go out some times to eat outside because it's easy and that depends on your mood!

We went to Cancun in September of 2015. We stayed at the Westin Lagunamar which was a timeshare gifted for us to use as a wedding present. So we didn't have the option of going all-inclusive. I gotta say, we didn't miss it! We walked to any of the restaurants we ate at and we always got whatever we wanted, (filet mignon, cocktails, dessert, appetizers... we figured it was our honeymoon so might as well get what we wanted.)
We took $2,000 spending money for food, activities, souvenirs...
Even with buying all the tequila and souvenirs we could could fit in a big checked suitcase that weighed 49 pounds, and getting all the food we wanted, we came back with $1,000+/- to spare. And most of the time we ate at 4 star restaurants because we stopped walking when we got hungry and went to the nearest restaurant. Of all the restaurants we went to, our favorite was El Fish Fritanga... which was the cheapest place we went and we sought it out bc the reviews were so good. They were right!
